For our learning resource, we decided to use the Open Pedagogy Learning Design Approach.

An open pedagogy learning design is an open discussion based approach where the learners are involved in the teaching process. Students are actively encouraged to create and share information from which other students can learn and critique. In this way, there is a broad array of new ideas and perspectives where constructive growth can occur. With open pedagogies, there is a risk of misinformation; however, it is our hope that a respectful community will form where mistakes will be actively corrected by other learners.

For a topic such as nutrition, where new scientific research is constantly being added, it makes sense to allow an open form of learning design. In an environment where the information is dynamic, it requires a learning design that is dynamic as well.

Furthermore, the use of an open pedagogy in a topic such as nutrition allows for a library of personal experiences and recipes. It is our hope that through Module 2’s blog assignment, students will actively create a database of healthy recipes from which they can use and contribute to in their daily lives.
