On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Identify and define each of the three macronutrients (Proteins, Lipids, and Carbohydrates) and their role in the body
  • Identify the main roles of some key micronutrients (e.g. Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Essential Vitamins, Fibre) and what foods to eat that contain them
  • Apply an understanding of the proportions of macro/micro-nutrients that make up a balanced diet to create a diet plan
  • Describe/Analyze how food labels are presented and how to decipher them
